Gail Ann and I have been married for ten years. I love her dearly. She makes me feel like a king, which tells me that she is a perfect example of the Church's relationship to Christ because I am a king in Christ. She helps me understand what that truly means. Plus, she is the most enjoyable person to be around. It's always delightful in her presence.
I was a youth pastor for thirteen years before planting Messiah Reformed Church. The more my understanding of the Gospel has developed, the more I desperately desired a church where the people could live lives that were truly free from the guilt and shame that Christ came to overcome.
As a full preterist, I've come to realize what grace really is. We truly stand before God with no requirements. No matter what we do, He never counts our sins against us. We truly have been freed from the bondage of the Law to freely pursue our joy to the fullest extent.
I preached about grace for many years, but until I embraced full preterism, I never realized what that truly meant. We get to obey God, not because we have to, but because we want to. And when we don't want to, God does not hold it against us.
Certainly, we rob ourselves of joy when we don't obey God, but it is so freeing to know that when I sin, nothing changes in my relationship with God. I don't have to feel guilt of shame. I can truly be myself, warts and all! And when the people of God realize that, then we don't have to be fake around each other.
The beautiful thing is, when we know each other that deeply, true accountability sets in and we discover what it really means to care for one another in our deepest struggles. That's what Messiah Reformed Church is all about - being real because we don't have to hide who we really are. After all, we're all sinners. I'm no better than you.
Welcome to Messiah Reformed Church.
